Actor Liam Garrigan was involved in one of HOLBY CITY’s biggest storylines to date, playing the brother of ‘Kellar Killer’ Kelly Yorke. Having joined the show in June 2003 as Healthcare Assistant Nic, in his six months on Holby, he also had a brief romance with Sandy Harper. Liam looks back on his time on the show with holby.tv…
Do you have fond memories of your time working on HOLBY CITY?
I have very fond memories of Holby. I made some fantastic friends and the experience of working on my first TV show with brilliant actors like Holby’s will stay with me forver.
HOLBY CITY was your first major TV break, did you learn a lot from working there?
I went to Holby straight from Drama School so I had no real knowledge of working infront of a camera. The time at Holby gave me an opportunity to practice every day so I learnt a lot quite quickly – I had to!
Did you enjoy playing the character of Nic? What were your most memorable storylines/ moments to film?
I had great fun playing Nic. The most memorable moments for me were when the Kellar Killer storyline came to a head. The scenes in the woods with Rachel and getting blown up in the house!
Can you remember your first scene/ words filming on HOLBY CITY? Were you nervous when you first joined the show?
I was so nervous stepping on the Set for the first time. It was like I had completely forgotten how to act! The first scene I filmed was with Verona and Luisa and they helped me relax. My first line was ‘Did you want some towels?’ – so glamorous!
Do you still keep in touch with any cast members from HOLBY CITY?
Yeah, I still keep in touch with Rachel and Tish.
Do you ever watch the show now?
Recently I have been doing theatre so I’m at work in the evenings, so I don’t get to watch much TV!
Did being in HOLBY CITY increase your medical knowledge in any way? Would you be a good person to have around in an emergency?
Yeah I learnt about different drugs and how to correctly put a bandage on. I know the recovery position and I’d have a go at mouth to mouth if necessary!
What have you be doing since leaving the show?
Thankfully lots of different things; Ultimate Force for ITV, a couple of plays and lots of other bits and pieces.
Do you still get recognised by fans from your time as Nic in HOLBY CITY?
Not so much now but then it has been two years.
What would be your dream acting role?
I would love to play George Best in a story of his life, then maybe ina few years Bond!
