Fans were disappointed to learn that actress Rebekah Gibbs was leaving the show this Summer after 18 months on the show. Her confident, outgoing character, paramedic Nina Farr, has enjoyed many storylines that include her romance with Abs Denham and her relationship with step-sister Ellen, who was recently diagnosed with cancer. Rebekah talks to holby.tv about her departure…
You’re leaving CASUALTY later this series, why have you decided to leave the show?
I had a great time but I am looking forward to the future!
Is your exit storyline going to be dramatic?
As in life, nothing is straight forward!!
What have been your favourite storylines involving your character Nina?
All the ‘Lara Croft’ type action girl heroic episodes. The present topical story with Ellen is some of the best work I have done to date. Georgina and I have worked really hard on it.
What will you miss most from working on CASUALTY? Will you keep in touch with any of the cast?
I will keep in touch with all of them, as they’re very dear to me. I will miss the Bristol team and it’s warmth in and out of work.
Did you enjoy playing the character of Nina? Are you anything like her in real-life?
It’s been the best part in terms of challenges, physically and storylines. Nina’s got more bottle than me – she’s much more of a hero!
Will you take any keepsakes with you from your time on the show?
My green boiler suit and my very lucky black boots – they have been on my feet since day one (when I was down the drains in S19 E1!). They will take pride of place next to my roller skates from ‘Starlight Express’!
Do you have any funny/ embarrassing moments that have happened on Set that you can share?
Apart from nearly taking a man’s arm off a side panal of the ambulance and having to snog Mr Redmond for the first time, no!
Do you think your medical knowledge has increased in any way since being on CASUALTY?
My medical knowledge has increased ten fold. I went out on a proper shout last month, Sharon, the real paramedic, informed me I was to pull my weight in terms of work – and I did, without feeling inadequate.
What acting projects would you like to work on in future?
I will embrace all life gives me!
Finally, do you have a message for fans, who have supported you through your time on CASUALTY?
Thank you for being ‘great’ fans and keep in touch. x
